Kaixin has been created to bring you a broader and positive view of China. Best expressed by an entry in the Kaixin writing competition: "Why not China?" "Because,"I cast about for a metaphor to explain, and seize upon the colouring book that my five year old is busy over. ‘Because when I think of China I see nothing reassuring, nothing familiar, no colour. Only grey. People dressed in grey, shoulders stooped, heading into grey factory smoke, or shuffling home in grey twilight to grey flats.’ When I think of China now, I see images of vibrant colour. Warm smiles of welcome; rich architecture; children bubbling with excitement. That is the China Kaixin want to bring you, '... images of vibrant colour. Warm smiles of welcome; rich architecture; children bubbling with excitement.' Kaixin was created by Mei and Graeme Mills. Mei lived in China for over 40 years before moving to Australia in 2008. Mei brings her lifelong experience of China and her unique experiences growing up in China. First, during the Cultural Revolution and then as the dragon stirred to take its place in the world. She also brings a love of teaching, a love of history and culture. She has an extensive network of friends in China, 人际关系 (ren ji guan xi). Graeme Mills B.A. (Maj English & History) LLB has found a new passion in life, China. Graeme brings an ability to write, a love of history, a keen interest in current affairs and a newfound passion for China. His adventures in trying to learn Chinese are reflected in the journal, 'An Introduction to Chinese'. Together, Mei and Graeme bring an Eastern and Western perspective to that great topic, China.
